1 DAY MABAMBA WETLAND BIRDING TOUR.
Overview
Mabamba wetland is one of the best birding spots in Uganda and it’s well known for homing the rare shoebill stork. It is located between Entebbe and Kampala at the shores of Lake Victoria. Mabamba swamp can be accessed from either Entebbe or Kampala but Entebbe is near and the boat cruise is the best option here.
In case you slept in Kampala, you need to wake up early and start the drive to avoid traffic. After a boat cruise, you will join a canoe to make it easy to access the swamp. There is a lot of birds to see while on tour and among others are African fish eagle, hamerkop, crowned hornbill, Madagascar bee-eater, yellow-billed duck, white-faced whistling duck, malachite kingfisher, little stint, weyns’ weaver, yellow ramped tinker bird, glossy ibis among others.
Detailed itinerary
The tour will immediately begin after an early breakfast at the hotel and then set off by either a car from Kampala or a boat cruise from Entebbe. Take a traditional canoe as you head to the swamp to search for the rare shoebill stork that can easily be spotted here.
The sight guide from Mabamba will take us to good spotting points where you will be to spot even migratory birds from Europe and Africa at large. Other birds that will be spotted include African jacana, knob-billed duck, African fish eagle, grey-rumped swallow, and black-winged stilt. Blue-breasted bee-eater, crowned hornbill, red-billed fire finch, sooty chat among others. Then you will head back to the hotels as you have several stopovers where you will spot other birds.
