5 DAYS SABINYO HIKING AND MGAHINGA GORILLA TREKKING.
Overview
Take this 5 days safari in Uganda which takes you to hike the rugged Sabyinyo volcano and again trek the remaining endangered mountain gorillas. The hike is rewarding as the summit gives the best view of three countries (DR Congo, Rwanda and Uganda), you will have a city tour of either Entebbe or Kampala depending on your arrival time.
Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.
Pick up from the hotel in Kampala and transfer to Mgahinga national park the smallest conservation area in Uganda covering an area of only 34 square kilometres. This park is part of the Virunga conservation area and this means that it is a home of mountain gorillas.
The journey southwards rewards you with a view of the Uganda equator where you will have a first stopover for photography and experiment and the second stop in Mbarara for lunch. Continue on a thrilling drive through the rolling terraced Kigezi highlands. On arrival, you will check in at your place of accommodation after an 8-9 hours’ drive.
Day 2: Hike the Sabyinyo Mountain.
Take a morning cup of tea or coffee and then drive to the national park offices for a briefing session about the upcoming hike. This hike is tedious and it requires some average level of physical fitness; involving the use of ladders at a certain point, but the summit rewards you with the best scenery. An hour spent on the summit, will be the best memory in your lifetime.
Hiking and descending takes 8-9 hours and on return, your driver-guide will take you back to the lodge for relaxation and dinner.
Day 3: Gorilla trekking adventure.
Adventures never end as you take this amazing exercise of encountering beautiful creatures. The briefing will be done first and this will help you to make trekking memorable after understanding the rules and regulations.
The gorilla trekking takes about 2-8 hours including an hour in the presence of gorillas while taking enough photos and recording videos. Thereafter, you will trek back and meet the driver guide who will take you back to the lodge.
Day 4: Transfer back to Kampala.
Transfer back to Kampala on this day which will be a long drive taking about 8 hours on road. Check in at the accommodation for dinner after enroute lunch.
Day 5: City tour and departure.
Take a short city tour at either Entebbe or Kampala where you will visit the Uganda Reptile Village, Uganda Wildlife Education Centre or Uganda museum, local markets respectively and thereafter you will be dropped at the airport which will mark the end of this 5 days Sabyinyo Hiking and Mgahinga gorilla trekking safari.
