Murchison Falls Classic Wildlife Safari
3 Days · Nile Cruise · Lion · Elephant · Giraffe

"Murchison Falls National Park — Uganda's largest and most visited national park — delivers classic East African safari thrills in a setting that has changed little since Ernest Hemingway camped on these banks. Lion, elephant, Rothschild's giraffe, buffalo, and hippo are all reliably seen. The Nile launch cruise to the base of Murchison Falls — where the entire Nile squeezes through a 7-metre gap — is one of Africa's great wildlife journeys."

Itinerary — Day by Day
Day 1
Kampala / Entebbe → Murchison Falls National Park (305 km)
Early morning departure from your Kampala or Entebbe hotel. Drive north on the Kampala–Gulu highway through Uganda's Buganda countryside and the expansive Nile basin. Total drive: approx. 305 km, 5–6 hours. Optional stop en route: the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary (add-on, see FAQs) for Uganda's only wild white rhino population — easily combined for $40pp. Continue into Murchison Falls NP. Arrive at your lodge on the Nile bank by early evening. Briefing from your guide, sunset over the river, dinner and overnight. Lodges available: Paraa Safari Lodge (mid-range, riverside), Pakuba Safari Lodge (budget, park interior), Nile Safari Lodge (mid-range, excellent views).
Day 2
Full Safari Day — Game Drive + Nile Boat Cruise to Murchison Falls
6:00am: Morning game drive — northern bank. This is Murchison's premier game drive territory. Lion prides are regularly found on termite mounds and under acacia shade. Rothschild's giraffe — one of the world's most endangered giraffe subspecies — stride across open savannah. Elephants move in large family groups. Jackson's hartebeest, Uganda kob, waterbuck, and oribi complete the grassland scene. Leopard are present and occasionally spotted at dawn. Return to lodge for brunch. 2:00pm: The Nile Launch Cruise. Board the launch from Paraa for the legendary 2-hour cruise upriver to the base of Murchison Falls. The Nile banks are alive with wildlife: hippo pods numbering in the dozens surface, yawn, and submerge beside your boat. Enormous Nile crocodiles bask on every sandbank. African skimmer, pink-backed pelican, goliath heron, giant kingfisher, pied kingfisher, and malachite kingfisher line the banks. At the narrowest point of the Nile, your boat pushes into the spray zone — and suddenly you understand why Murchison Falls is called the most powerful waterfall on Earth, where 300 cubic metres per second forces through a 7-metre gap and plunges 43 metres. Return to lodge. Sundowner. Dinner and overnight.
Day 3
Murchison Falls Viewpoint Walk + Delta Birding → Return Kampala (305 km)
After breakfast, walk to the top of Murchison Falls — a 15-minute guided walk from the car park gives you the view from above, looking down into the gorge where the Nile erupts. For photographers, the spray and force is extraordinary at this angle. Optional: morning delta birding walk in the Murchison delta wetlands — shoebill stork territory and home to 451+ bird species. Depart mid-morning for the return drive south to Kampala or Entebbe (305 km, approx. 5 hours). Arrive by evening. Flight connections: book no earlier than 8pm.

Frequently Asked Questions
What wildlife can I expect to see?
Murchison Falls NP holds over 76 mammal species. On almost every game drive you will see: elephant, Rothschild's giraffe, Uganda kob, waterbuck, and Jackson's hartebeest. Lion sightings are frequent — 3–4 prides regularly patrol the northern bank. Buffalo herds are common. Leopard is possible but elusive. The Nile cruise virtually guarantees hippos, crocodiles, and extraordinary waterbirds.
Can I add rhino tracking at Ziwa Sanctuary?
Yes — Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is directly on the route from Kampala to Murchison (approximately 175km north of Kampala). A 2-hour rhino tracking walk on foot with an armed ranger adds approximately $40 per person and 2–3 hours to Day 1. Contact us when booking to add this — it gives your 3-day safari a unique bonus activity and completes Uganda's Big 5 list.
How does the payment plan work?
At $1,030 per person, this safari costs $86/month over 12 months — less than many monthly subscriptions. No interest, no credit checks. Email info@nileabenteuer.com or WhatsApp +256752397520 to start your plan. We confirm availability and hold dates once your first payment is received.
What is the best time of year for Murchison Falls?
Murchison Falls is excellent year-round. The dry seasons (June–September and December–February) concentrate wildlife around water and offer the best game drive conditions. The green season (March–May, October–November) brings lush scenery, lower prices, and outstanding birding. The Nile cruise is spectacular in all seasons.
"Uganda's wildlife parks are among Africa's most diverse and least crowded safari destinations. From tree-climbing lions to the prehistoric Shoebill, from the world's most powerful waterfall to the Great Migration — your safari is waiting. Start your Nile Abenteuer Safaris payment plan today."
