5-Day Itinerary — Day by Day
Day 1
Kampala / Entebbe → Kidepo Valley National Park
Option A — Drive: Depart Kampala early morning for the long but rewarding drive north (~10–11 hours via Gulu). Your driver-guide stops at Murchison Falls viewpoint en route for a brief visit and picnic lunch at the Nile. Arrive Kidepo by evening as the sun sets over the Narus Valley — a sight that will stop you in your tracks. Check in, dinner, overnight.
Option B — Fly: Charter flight from Entebbe (Aero Uganda / Fly Uganda) direct to Kidepo airstrip. Just 1 hour. Afternoon game drive on arrival. Much more comfortable — highly recommended for 5-day itineraries. Fly-in adds approximately $450 per person each way.
Overnight: Apoka Safari Lodge (top recommendation) or Kidepo Savannah Lodge.

Day 2
Full Day Kidepo — Narus Valley Game Drives
Pre-dawn start (6:00am): The Narus Valley at first light is extraordinary. Elephant herds emerge from the Kidepo River. Lion prides are still active. Cheetah mothers move their cubs across open ground. The light is golden and the savannah is empty of tourists.
Morning game drive (3–4 hours) targeting lion, cheetah, elephant, giraffe, eland, and buffalo. Return to lodge for mid-morning brunch. Rest during midday heat.
Late afternoon game drive (4:00–7:00pm): The Narus Valley again — this time watching the herds return to water at the Apoka waterhole. Kidepo's sunsets over the Morungole Mountains are legendary. Return to lodge for dinner under extraordinary dark skies (zero light pollution — the Milky Way is visible).

Day 3
Katarum Valley + Karamajong Cultural Village Visit
Morning game drive in the Katarum Valley — Kidepo's second valley, drier and more remote than Narus. Katarum is excellent for bat-eared fox, striped hyena, aardwolf, and the Karamajong eland herds. Also home to ostriches, Jackson's hartebeest, and Burchell's zebra. A truly wild and atmospheric landscape with no other vehicles in sight.
Afternoon: Karamajong cultural village visit — meet the semi-nomadic Karamajong people, one of East Africa's most distinctive cultures. Watch the traditional warrior dance, cattle ceremony, and jewellery making. Learn about Karamajong cattle culture, their relationship with lions, and their remarkable traditional knowledge of the Kidepo landscape. Guided by a Nile Abenteuer Safaris local community liaison.

Day 4
Kidepo — Walking Safari + Night Drive Option
Morning guided walking safari in Kidepo with armed UWA rangers — a completely different experience from game drives. Track elephant footprints, identify predator spoor, and understand the ecosystem at ground level. Walking brings you closer to the landscape than any vehicle can.
Afternoon at leisure at the lodge. Optional activities: swimming pool (Apoka Lodge), guided bird walk (475 species — Abyssinian ground hornbill, Karamoja apalis, Fox's weaver), or relaxing on your veranda as elephant graze near the lodge boundary.
Evening: Optional Night Drive (highly recommended) — Kidepo at night reveals genets, civets, white-tailed mongoose, aardvark (possible), and if extremely lucky, leopard or caracal. Night drives available with prior arrangement (+$40 pp).

Day 5
Final Dawn Drive → Depart Kidepo → Return to Entebbe
One last game drive at dawn — Kidepo always saves something special for departure morning. Watch the lion pride move off to shade. Photograph giraffe silhouettes against the rising sun. Then pack, breakfast, and depart.
Option A — Drive back: Full day drive south to Entebbe/Kampala via Gulu. Arrive by 9pm. Your guide will stop for lunch and at scenic viewpoints. Long but rewarding — Uganda's northern landscapes are beautiful.
Option B — Fly out: Charter flight back to Entebbe (1 hour). Arrive mid-morning with the rest of the day free in Entebbe or Kampala. Highly recommended for flight connections.
Pro tip: If you have a night flight, we can arrange an Entebbe hotel day room at no extra cost.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Kidepo safe to visit?
Yes. Kidepo Valley National Park is a designated safe tourism zone with permanent Uganda Wildlife Authority and Uganda People's Defence Force presence. The park has been safe for tourism for many years. The cross-border area with South Sudan is managed and monitored by UWA. Nile Abenteuer Safaris has operated tours to Kidepo since 2019 with zero safety incidents. All our Kidepo guides are experienced in the region's logistics and local relationships.
Should I fly in or drive to Kidepo?
For a 5-day itinerary, we strongly recommend the fly-in option (approximately $450 per person each way). The drive from Kampala is 10–11 hours each way, which consumes almost 2 full days of your trip. Flying gives you 2 extra game drive days in Kidepo and arrives you fresh and ready to explore. If you're on a tight budget, the drive is absolutely doable — and the northern Uganda landscape is beautiful. We offer both options.
What wildlife can I expect to see?
Kidepo has 77+ mammal species including lion (very reliable), cheetah (regular — one of the only parks in Uganda), elephant, buffalo, Rothschild's giraffe, eland, zebra, and ostrich. Leopard is present but elusive. Caracal is a rare possibility. The Narus Valley game drives are consistently excellent — Kidepo's animals are calm and approachable due to the very low tourist volumes. You will almost certainly have the park to yourself.
Can I combine Kidepo with gorilla trekking or Murchison Falls?
Yes — we commonly combine Kidepo with Murchison Falls (both in northern Uganda) into a 7–8 day northern circuit, which is excellent value. Combining with gorilla trekking requires 9–10 days total. We also offer a 14-day Grand Uganda Safari that covers Kidepo, Murchison, Queen Elizabeth, Kibale, and Bwindi. Contact us at info@roambeyondtours.com for custom itinerary options.
How does the payment plan work for this package?
The Kidepo Remote Wilderness Safari starts from $2,200 per person. Over 12 months that's just $183 per month. Over 6 months it's $367/month. No interest, no credit check, no hidden fees.
